GabrielSoft - How to change your password
There are two ways a password can be reset with your eCatholic website.
IN THIS ARTICLE:
Method 1: How to change your eCatholic password
If you can't remember your password or simply want to change it, here's how an individual eCatholic user can change their own password.
Click on the Login link to open the Login dialog
The Login link is located at the bottom of your website. This is how it appears: Login | powered by eCatholic
Click Reset Password
Once the Login dialog (pictured below) opens, you’ll see fields to enter your Username and Password. Beneath these fields is a Reset Password link. Click on it to proceed.
How to allow pop-ups
Your browser may detect the Retrieve Password window as a pop-up. As a result, your browser might block it from appearing. If the Retrieve Password window automatically appears, great! Move on to Step 3.
If the Retrieve Password window gets blocked by your browser, identify which browser you’re using and follow the appropriate directions below.
- Google Chrome - This article explains how to allow pop-ups in Chrome. Click on “Allow pop-ups from a site” to view the step-by-step instructions.
- Internet Explorer - This article explains security settings in Internet Explorer. Click on “Pop-up Blocker” to view the step-by-step instructions.
- Mozilla Firefox - This article explains Pop-up blocker settings in Firefox. Click on “What are pop-ups?” to read more about how Firefox handles them.
- Safari - This article explains how to allow pop-ups in Safari.
Enter your username to trigger a password reset email
After you enter your username in the Retrieve Password window (pictured below), a password reset email will be sent to the email associated with your eCatholic user account.
If you haven’t received the password reset email after several minutes, check your Spam folder.
Click the link in the password reset email
The password reset email will identify your eCatholic username, your site’s domain, and a link to open the Change Password window (pictured below).
Step 5. Enter your new password
Create a new password and enter it in the New Password field.
You’ll notice that the Password Strength indicator meter grades your password as you create it. Bad passwords won’t be allowed, so keep trying until you create a password that survives the checker. All passwords that make the list of the 100 most common passwords will be rejected.
Once you’ve entered an appropriate password, click Change Password. You’ll then be notified that your password has been changed and the window can be closed.
Method 2: How to change another user's password (Admins only)
If you're an Admin for your website, you can log in and change/reset the passwords of other users.
Find the user in your list of Admin Users
Log in to your Admin account, then click Administration > Admin Users > and locate the name of the user whose password you want to change (steps 1-3 pictures below).
Click Change Password
Once you’ve opened the user’s account settings, you’ll notice a Change Password button (step 4 pictured above). Clicking on it will open the Change Password window, which is where you can enter a new password for the user.
If the Change Password window doesn’t appear, it may have been blocked as a pop-up by your browser. Check the browser-specific directions for handling pop-ups -- we’ve listed them above.
Enter a new password
Create a new password and enter it in the New Password field. Note that the Password Strength Indicator Meter will require a strong password. Once entered, click Change Password and you’re good to go!
